The HPCTRAIN project is set up with a goal to provide professional traineeships to young professionals in HPC across Europe. This initiative objectives of the Digital Europe Programme and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (JU) are to broaden the use of supercomputing infrastructures in Europe and to develop key skills needed for this sector.

The programme promotes HPC training at all levels and places a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion. Trainees are connected with matching opportunities offered by the public and private sectors, for example among companies representing the EuroHPC JU’s Private Members.

HPCTRAIN will contribute to enhancing career opportunities, digital skills, bridging the skills gap and industry collaboration. Trainees will gain tools to improve their employability and career prospects such as:

  • practical experiences in a professional and non-academic environment,
  • networking opportunities, and
  • exposure to industry partners.

These traineeships will also include hands-on experience in specific HPC technologies enabling trainees to develop advanced digital skills highly sought after in the job market. They will be able to collaborate with industrial partners and HPC centres, exposing them to real-world industry environments and challenges.

HPCTRAIN includes continuous monitoring activities to assess whether the traineeships effectively connect education with labour market needs. Complementary communication and dissemination actions will raise awareness of traineeship opportunities and provide information to relevant EuroHPC stakeholders.

The initiative will align with and strengthen other European HPC training efforts, including EUMaster4HPC and the , ensuring coordination across the European HPC skills ecosystem.
