Description

AIGFs should aim to provide a world-class sovereign AI computing infrastructure for European researchers, public authorities, entrepreneurs, industries, and SMEs. They shall strengthen the European industry, enable the development of entirely new AI solutions, strengthen the European AI value chains in both software and hardware, and ensure the EU's competitiveness and sovereignty as an AI Continent. To achieve this, they will integrate massive AI computing power, together with energy-efficient data centres, and AI-driven automation to optimise AI model training, inference, and services deployment

To qualify as an AIGF, each facility must integrate at least three to four times the number of the most advanced AI processors currently available in the most powerful European AI factories. In addition to computational scale, AIGFs must demonstrate adequate power capacity infrastructure and incorporate best practices in energy efficiency, water efficiency, and circularity principles in their design and operations.
