EUMaster4HPC Programme continues advancing HPC Skills in Europe with new phase (2026–2032)

The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking announces the start of the new phase of the EUMaster4HPC, a pan-European Master of Science (MSc) programme in High Performance Computing.

Funded by the EuroHPC JU, this programme will address the growing demand for highly skilled professionals in High Performance Computing, a domain that remains central to Europe’s digital sovereignty and technological leadership. 

This European master programme in HPC will  support young graduates to develop skills in the scale up of HPC operations , deepen industry engagement, and align with emerging frontiers in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Quantum Computing. This programme will position Europe at the forefront of computing education and training HPC experts in line with the needs of the European labour market. Several hundred students will be selected over 4 cohorts, offering up to 120 ECTS and educated in equipping them with advanced and cutting-edge skills required for research and industrial HPC applications. 

Students can apply for the intake until 15 August 2026 via the EUMaster4HPC website to be considered for this distinguished programme.

Nine Awarding Universities from eight European countries will participate in this programme, including the University of Luxembourg as the coordinating organisation, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, the Politecnico di Milano, the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , the Sorbonne University, and the Sofia University, as well as two universities previously involved as Participating Universities AGH University of Krakow and VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, and the newly selected member of the consortium, the  Freie Universität Berlin.  They are joined by 13 participating universities, as well as leading supercomputing centres and industry partners, ensuring students’ access to advanced infrastructure. Sustained collaboration with industry enhances the impact, reinforcing the link between education, research, and innovation.

The EuroHPC JU will be contributing close to EUR 10 million during a period of 6 years. This programme is closely aligned with the EuroHPC Virtual Academy (EVITA), supporting cross-institutional learning and resource sharing. Moreover, in cooperation with the European Technology Platform for High-Performance Computing (ETP4HPC), the project further strengthens its engagement with industry, ensuring that graduates are well prepared to meet Europe’s technological and labour market needs. This programme is a strategic investment in Europe’s future HPC, AI & Quantum experts and leaders.

The programme places strong emphasis on mobility, requiring students to study in at least two different countries, and integrates internships and industry-led workshops to enhance employability and practical experience. A robust quality assurance framework, including continuous feedback, curriculum reviews, and graduate tracking, ensures alignment with industry needs and long-term sustainability. Gender diversity is also a key priority, with targeted measures to increase female participation and inclusivity across all programme activities.

About the EUMaster4HPC

The European Master for High Performance Computing (EUMaster4HPC) is the first pan-European Master’s programme focused on high-performance computing. Supported by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, it brings together leading European universities, supercomputing centres, industry and research centres to develop a new generation of European HPC experts. The programme combines academic excellence with hands-on experience at HPC centres, preparing students to tackle complex challenges in science, engineering, and industry. 

About EuroHPC JU

The EuroHPC JU is a legal and funding entity that brings together the European Union and participating countries to coordinate efforts and pool resources with the objective of making Europe a world leader in supercomputing.    

To equip Europe with a cutting-edge supercomputing infrastructure, the EuroHPC JU has already procured 12 supercomputers, distributed across Europe including JUPITER and Alice Recoque, Europe’s first exascale systems. 

European scientists and users from the public sector and industry can benefit from EuroHPC supercomputers via the EuroHPC Access Calls no matter where in Europe they are located, to advance science and support the development of a wide range of applications with industrial, scientific and societal relevance for Europe. 

Currently, the EuroHPC JU is also overseeing the implementation of 19 AI factories (AIF) across Europe, complemented by  13 AI Factory Antennas, to offer free, customised support to SMEs and startups. 

Additionally, the EuroHPC JU is deploying a European Quantum Computing infrastructure, integrating diverse European quantum computing technologies with existing supercomputers.

The EuroHPC JU also funds  research and innovation projects to develop a full European supercomputing supply chain, from processors and software to applications to be run on these supercomputers and know-how to develop strong European HPC expertise. 

With the recent adoption of Council Regulation (EU) 2026/150, the EuroHPC JU’s mandate has been expanded with new action pillars dedicated to the deployment of AI Gigafactories across Europe and the advancement of quantum technologies.

The EUMaster4HPC is a project funded by the EuroHPC JU, under the  Digital Europe Programme  with a total budget of EUR 7 million. The project is part of the EuroHPC JU’s broader strategy to develop a full European supercomputing ecosystem and to widen the use of HPC infrastructures. 

Launched in January 2022, the project is coordinated by the University of Luxembourg and composed of European universities, research/supercomputing centres and industrial and SMEs partners. The educational programme of the project officially started in Autumn 2022 with a first cohort of students.
