This ceremony marked the occasion to celebrate the students' accomplishment, and underscore Europe's efforts to provide the next generation with the necessary skills to drive future technological and digital excellence.

The third cohort of the EUMaster4HPC programme includes a total of 42 students representing 12 different nationalities, who have spent the last two years developing their skills and knowledge in a in a multidisciplinary, pan-European learning environment.

This master’s programme brings together universities, industries, research organisations, and HPC centres from across Europe to offer a shared curriculum in HPC. As part of EUMaster4HPC, students can study at eight participating universities, each providing an identical core curriculum. In the first year, they complete a range of foundational courses, while in the second year they advance their expertise by moving to a university that offers their chosen specialisation.

The awarding universities were Politecnico di Milano, University of Luxembourg, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Sorbonne Université, FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, USI Università della Svizzera italiana, and KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

The ceremony comes just as the second phase of the EUMaster4HPC project has officially been launched, ensuring continuity of the ambitious programme through 2032, with 400 hundred students expected and new awarding universities.

About the EUMaster4HPC

The European Master for High-Performance Computing (EUMaster4HPC) is the first pan-European master’s programme focused on high-performance computing. Supported by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, it brings together leading European universities, supercomputing centres, industry and research centres to develop a new generation of European HPC experts. The programme combines academic excellence with hands-on experience at HPC centres, preparing students to tackle complex challenges in science, engineering, and industry.

The project EUMaster4HPC is a project funded by the EuroHPC JU, under the Horizon 2020 with a total budget of EUR 7 million. Launched in January 2022, the project is coordinated by the University of Luxembourg and composed of European universities, research/supercomputing centres and industrial and SMEs partners. The educational programme of the project officially started in Autumn 2022 with a first cohort of students.

The EUMaster4HPC project is part of the EuroHPC JU’s broader strategy to develop a full European supercomputing ecosystem and to widen the use of HPC infrastructures. In addition to this programme, the EuroHPC JU supports a range of other training and skills initiatives, including HPC TRAIN, EVITA, HPC SPECTRA, AI Factories, and more. An overview of these initiatives is available on the continuously evolving HPC in Europe portal, which is regularly updated with new opportunities and resources.

About the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking

The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking is a joint initiative of the European Union and participating countries that pools resources to make Europe a global leader in supercomputing.

It has already deployed 12 world-class supercomputers across Europe, including JUPITER in Germany and Alice Recoque in France, Europe's first exascale systems.

Researchers, industry and public-sector users throughout Europe can access these systems through EuroHPC Access Calls to advance scientific research and develop applications with industrial and societal impact.

The EuroHPC JU oversees the implementation of 19 AI factories (AIF) across Europe, complemented by 13 AI Factory Antennas, to offer free, customised support to SMEs and startups.

The EuroHPC JU is also building Europe's quantum computing infrastructure by integrating European quantum technologies with its supercomputers, while investing in research and innovation across the entire European supercomputing value chain—from processors and software to applications and skills.

Following the adoption of Council Regulation (EU) 2026/150, the EuroHPC JU's mandate has been expanded to include the deployment of AI Gigafactories across Europe, an initiative for which the JU recently launched a call for tenders, as well the advancement of quantum technologies.
