EuroHPC JU signs contract for MeluXina-AI, a new AI-optimised supercomputer for the Luxembourg AI Factory

The EuroHPC JU signed a procurement contract with E4 Computer Engineering, the selected contractor, for the acquisition, delivery, installation and maintenance of MeluXina-AI, a new AI-optimised supercomputer for the EuroHPC AIF in Luxembourg.

As part of the Luxembourg AI Factory initiative, MeluXina-AI will be hosted and operated by LuxProvide. The new supercomputer will strengthen Europe’s capacity in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science, supporting research, innovation, and industrial development across strategic sectors. 

MeluXina-AI will deliver the computing power required for the training, testing, and pre-production deployment of advanced AI models. The system will be supported by a rich,  scalable software ecosystem designed to meet the needs of AI users, from startups and companies of all sizes to researchers and industry.

Integrated by E4 Computer Engineering, The MeluXina-AI supercomputer will be built on Dell Technologies servers with liquid-cooled NVIDIA GB200 NVL4 systems based on the Blackwell architecture across 252 nodes for a total of 1,008 GPUs and a multi-protocol file system for both AI and HPC tiers. The supercomputer will be deployed on a dual-site infrastructure, Bissen and Bettembourg, delivering an estimated AI peak performance of over 20 Exaflops. 

The software stack engineered to meet the MeluXina-AI requirements will enable GPU-as-a-Service delivery to multiple tenants with container-native isolation and dynamic workload scheduling. The Smart Governance of the platform will be provided with a rich and diversified ecosystem, including the Urania platform developed by E4.

The infrastructure will support secure multi-tenant operations through advanced cloud-native and isolated environments, helping protect sensitive data and intellectual property. Through integrated compute and data bridges, the platform will also enable connectivity with external data platforms, cloud providers, and other EuroHPC AI Factories, contributing to a seamless end-to-end computing environment for AI workloads across Europe. 

In addition to this, sovereign cloud capabilities will support the deployment of AI applications within secure and sovereign environments, ensuring control, security, and compliance.

Since April 2025, the Luxembourg AI Factory has been a central hub for AI innovation and adoption, providing services to European startups, SMEs and other users by leveraging the existing MeluXina supercomputer. Its activities focus on several strategic sectors, including finance, space, cybersecurity and the green economy. 

With the signature of this contract, the initiative enters its next phase. MeluXina-AI will underpin the development of trustworthy and high-performance AI solutions and create new opportunities for innovation in Luxembourg and across Europe. 

The system will be installed across sites in Bissen and Bettembourg, Luxembourg. 

Installation activities are expected to start in fall of 2026.

E4 Computer Engineering was selected following a call for tender launched in February 2026. Dell Technologies will participate in the implementation of the contract as subcontractor.  

Luxembourg has been selected as a hosting site for an AI Factory in December 2024

Primarily designed to serve startups and SMEs, in their research and innovation activities, MeluXina-AI will also be accessible to the wider research community. 

The new AI-optimised supercomputer will be co-funded with a total budget of EUR 80 000 000 for the acquisition, delivery, installation, and maintenance of the system. The EuroHPC JU will fund 50% of the total cost through the Digital Europe Programme (DEP)

The Luxembourg AI Factory is coordinated by LuxProvide and implemented in collaboration with five consortium members, including Luxinnovation, the Luxembourg National Data Service, the University of Luxembourg, and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology.  

The Luxembourg AI Factory is part of a broader network of AI Factories across Europe as the EuroHPC JU is currently overseeing the implementation of 19 AI factories offering free, customised support to SMEs and startups, complemented by an additional 13 AI Factory Antennas. 

Background Information  

The EuroHPC JU is a legal and funding entity that brings together the European Union and participating countries to coordinate efforts and pool resources with the objective of making Europe a world leader in supercomputing.     

To equip Europe with a cutting-edge supercomputing infrastructure, the EuroHPC JU has already procured  12 supercomputers, distributed across Europe including JUPITER and Alice Recoque, Europe’s first exascale systems.  

European scientists and users from the public sector and industry can benefit from EuroHPC supercomputers via the EuroHPC Access Calls no matter where in Europe they are located, to advance science and support the development of a wide range of applications with industrial, scientific and societal relevance for Europe.  

Currently, the EuroHPC JU is also overseeing the implementation of 19 AI factories (AIF) across Europe, complemented by 13 AI Factory Antennas, to offer free, customised support to SMEs and startups.  

Additionally, the EuroHPC JU is deploying a European Quantum Computing infrastructure, integrating diverse European quantum computing technologies with existing supercomputers. 

The EuroHPC JU also funds  research and innovation projects to develop a full European supercomputing supply chain, from processors and software to applications to be run on these supercomputers and know-how to develop strong European HPC expertise.   

With the recent adoption of Council Regulation (EU) 2026/150, the EuroHPC JU’s mandate has been expanded with new action pillars dedicated to the deployment of AI Gigafactories across Europe and the advancement of quantum technologies.

About E4 Computer Engineering
