The EuroIHPCSS project supports Europe’s ongoing participation in the International HPC Summer School (IHPCSS), a long-running global training initiative that brings together graduate students and early-career researchers from around the world in learning about major state-of-the-art aspects of high-performance computing (HPC), data-intensive computing and related technologies. The project coordinates the European contribution to four editions of the school (2026–2029), supporting participation of European students, instructors and mentors alongside partners from the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Japan, South Africa and the United States. Building on more than 15 years of proven success, the IHPCSS combines technical training, hands-on experience on HPC systems, and structured mentoring to foster career development, diversity, and international collaboration.
Key Objectives
- Train European early-career researchers over four editions of the summer school, enhancing their expertise in HPC, AI-enabled computing, and data-driven science.
- Strengthen European leadership in advanced digital skills, aligning with the EU Digital Decade objectives.
- Promote global collaboration by connecting European talent with international peers, instructors, and mentors.
- Develop and share best practices in HPC education, mentoring and programme delivery through annual reports and an “IHPCSS Implementation Handbook” for future editions.
The project will work closely with the EuroHPC JU, the EuroHPC Training Academy (EVITA), the European MSc Programme for HPC (EUMaster4HPC) and other initiatives to strengthen advanced digital skills.
