The SeaReport project aims to advance EC JRC’s global metocean modelling capabilities by integrating and optimizing an advanced hydrodynamic framework – pyPoseidon – with High Performance Computing (HPC) resources. As climate change exacerbates extreme weather events, accurate predictions of storm surges become ever more crucial for coastal communities. Through EuroHPC, the team will enhance the computational efficiency and scalability of pyPoseidon, allowing higher resolution and enhanced physics global storm surge simulations. The expected outcomes include improved early-warning systems, risk assessments for emergency services, and contributions to climate impact studies. By fostering open-source collaboration, the researchers aim to democratize access to advanced modelling tools and create a shared platform for the scientific community to tackle collaboratively the ever more pressing environmental challenges.
This proposal acts as a continuation of the development access the researchers have had on Meluxina for the project p200232 since November 2023. The team reached the current ceiling for allocated resources and need a bigger infrastructure to scale our model up.
