The SeaReport project seeks to revolutionize EC JRC’s global metocean modelling by leveraging EuroHPC Extreme Scale resources to significantly upscale our hydrodynamic frameworks. Given the escalating frequency of extreme weather events due to climate change, it is imperative to deliver precise, high-resolution storm surge predictions to safeguard coastal populations. The Extreme Scale Access will enable us to achieve unprecedented resolution (500m) and computational capacity (>10M mesh nodes) for global 3D water level simulations. This will result in state-of-the-art early-warning systems, enhanced risk assessments for emergency services, and substantial contributions to climate impact research.
By fostering open-source collaboration, the team aims to democratize access to advanced modelling tools and create a shared platform for the scientific community to tackle collaboratively the ever more pressing environmental challenges.
The researchers want to use the Extreme Scale Access to to produce extensive multiyear decadal hindcasts on a very high-resolution mesh worldwide using our 3D HR global baroclinic model.
