The European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU)
  • Project

EUROQHPC-I

The EuroQHPC-Integration project aims to perform the coupling between six quantum computers based on different technologies and six existing supercomputers in European HPC centers.

The EuroQHPC-Integration project aims to perform the coupling between six quantum computers and six existing supercomputers:

  • VLQ, a 24-qubit star-shaped topology superconducting transmon-based quantum computer with KAROLINA, hosted at IT4Innovation in Ostrava (Czech Republic);
  • Lucy, a 12-qubit photonic quantum computer with Joliot-Curie, hosted at TGCC in Bruyères-le-Châtel (France);
  • A 54-qubit and a 150-qubit superconducting quantum computer with SuperMUC-NG-2, hosted at LRZ in Garching near Munich (Germany);
  • A 140-qubit neutral atom quantum computer with Leonardo, hosted at CINECA in Bologna (Italy);
  • Piast-Q, a 20-qubit trapped-ion quantum computer with Altaïr, hosted at PCSS in Poznan (Poland);
  • MareNostrum Ona analogue partition, an up to 25-qubit quantum annealing device based on superconducting circuits integrated with MareNostrum5 supercomputer, hosted at the BSC-CNS in Barcelona (Spain).

The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and its partners are building a European hybrid HPC-QC infrastructure, dedicated to open research. Building on the first integration of two 100+-qubit neutral atom quantum simulators with two European supercomputers through the HPCQS project, EuroQHPC-Integration aims at fostering harmonization across the various components of this shared infrastructure.

Mutualisation of efforts will cover:

  • Harmonization of the user and developer experience;
  • Shared experience across the application development support teams and experts from the various partner organization;
  • Joint collection of benchmarking applications to assess performances of the different quantum computing and hybrid quantum-classical architectures;
  • Connection with national and international standardisation and normalisation bodies.
